‘Guardians of Life’ from Extinction Rebellion with Amazon Watch sounds the alarm around global wildfires and deforestation.

Days ahead of the Oscars, Joaquin Phoenix heads to the E.R. to revive a dying patient in “Guardians of Life,” a film made in partnership between Extinction Rebellion and Amazon Watch which centers on the near-critical stage of the climate crisis.

With the aim of driving traffic to raise funds, it’s the first in a series of 12 planned films by Extinction Rebellion. Phoenix, also no stranger to activism, has used his Joker awards circuit as a forum to protest the meat and dairy industries and their effects on climate change.

Joined by a team of doctors and nurses played by Adria Arjona, Oona Chaplin, Rosario Dawson, Matthew Modine, and The Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr., the real star is indigenous actress, Q’orianka Kilcher, who does not give up and successfully revives the patient. Ultimately it’s revealed that the patient is the Earth with burnt organs representing Australia and the Amazon.
